I'm majoring in international studies and spanish...what jobs are there for me other than a translator?

I am fluent in English, Spanish, Polish, and soon Arabic. I am majoring in international studies and spanish, as well as art. What jobs are out there other than a translator or the CIA?

Also, is there anyway I can somehow incorporate art into it?

Thanks!|||You could work in government-lean towards politics and you could help bring two countries together and talk about policy and stuff.

An art might have to be a side thing for you. People always say follow your dream, but you want to be realistic and pick a good career that will sustain you and provide stability. Then you can always pick up Art and sell on the side. You could set up a website where your things are sold and such.|||What other skills do you have?

I once met a man who could speak, read and write Farsi and Arabic. He could also pilot a small jet and repair Slurpee machines. He flew all over the Middle East doing that.

If I were you, I would take some basic courses in sales and accounting. That would prep you for international business.

Is there any website that has free audio in english to spanish translator?

Hola greginlbc,

The previous poster is right. However, if you are interested in audio files, these websites are great resources:

http://www.wordreference.com/es/en/trans…

http://www.123teachme.com/learn_spanish/…|||Considering that on-line translators are all highly inaccurate, the addition of audio would make them completely laughable. The answer to your question is a hearty NO.

What is the average per page rate of a spanish-english translator?

or per word rate?|||That would depend on a lot of variables, such as complexity of the document, the language level in it, the intended audience and their education level, what part of the country you're in, what's the competition in the field... You'd be better off calling local companies and schools and asking what their charge is for such an item. Also, many translators have to be certified, which means they can charge more due to professionally assuring the client that the translation is accurate.

I know of one company in Seattle which charges about $50 for a one page business letter written at a 6th grade reading level for a general audience.

How do you say "raise" in spanish? online translator won't help.?

Okay, I've tried the online translators. They don't work. I don't mean 'raising' the price of something. I mean 'raising' your children.

Can someone please translate the whole sentence (if you can) into spanish?

Here's the sentence:

You don't know how to raise your children=No sabes criar a tus hijos.|||No sabes como criar a tus hijos|||it means also "levantar, subir" (raise your hands) "levanta tus manos"|||criar

    Here you go.

    http://translate.google.com/translate_t#

You can change the language with the drop down menu below the writing box.
You will not find a translator that can translate in complete sentences AND make sense.

The reason is that a translator has to translate word by word, but this only works for some very simple sentences and not at all for idioms or any words with multiple meanings.

Therefore, there is no way around learning a foreign language, if you want to understand texts in other languages.

A translator can help someone who already knows the languages involved to translate a text - but usually needs to be thoroughly edited. It can also handle very simple sentences like "The cat runs," but even when you try to translate "The cat is running," you might end up with a wrong answer.Does anyone know a website that has a translator for english to spanish?

Is there any career i can get with a spanish major other than translator or spanish teacher?

also, what is your job? i don't care if it's spanish related or not. i am just a college student in need of ideas.

thanks :)Is there any career i can get with a spanish major other than translator or spanish teacher?
First of all, not all employers will look at your degree as a form of training. Some will be more interested in it as a sign that you are capable of learning, rather than being too fussed about what precisely you have learned so far. (I wish more employers thought that way, I may say.)

Second, if you do a good job of learning about Spanish as well as learning Spanish, then you will also be in a good position to learn any other Romance language (such as French, Italian or Romanian) that it might turn out you need later.

Third, your Spanish would stand you in good stead were you ever to want to take on a job - any job - in the Spanish-speaking world. And that doesn't necessarily mean living there. You could, for example, be a salesman selling in Spain or Mexico, or a consultant operating in Argentina or the Philippines (if there is still any Spanish there). Who knows?

In conclusion, don't think too narrowly. Is there any career i can get with a spanish major other than translator or spanish teacher?
With how widespread the language is becoming nowadays, I'm sure that having a strong knowledge over it will be useful in nearly any field. However, that being said, if you really don't want to be a teacher or translator, it may be best to double-major in another field that you're interested in. Because while mastery of the language is a great commodity, most jobs, I think, would want to see more than just that in looking for employees (that is, most jobs besides a teacher or translator). Is there any career i can get with a spanish major other than translator or spanish teacher?

What courses or where should i go?
Join the military and enter the Defense Language Institute. All services have them. You get excellent translation experience. I would then seek a job in the Foreign Service or the UN or work at an Embassy. Set your goals VERY high! Being bilingual is a very valuable skill!!

Is there an English/Spanish translator app that doesn't require internet connection?

if so could you give me the name of it? I dont care if it costs money, i just need one that does not require internet connection.

Thanks! Is there an English/Spanish translator app that doesn't require internet connection?
Try Babylon. You can download it here, on the internet.

http://translation.babylon.com/ Then, you can transfer it (like, using a Flash Drive or something) onto the

PC that doesn't have an internet. Then, once you have transfered it to the PC, run the Babylon8_setup.exe file. Then, it should run on the PC without internet.

    Better yet, try here:

What is a good spanish english translator link on the internet?

There are no good electronic translators. There are some pretty good online dictionaries, like wordreference.com. There is also Proz.com, where you submit a phrase of ten words or less and real live professional translators will offer suggestions for its translation for free, or if it is longer, you can post it as a job and have translators bid on it.What is a good spanish english translator link on the internet?

As RK said, there are no good ones. The two best ones are babelfish.yahoo.com and translate.google.com, and both produce utterly horrible translations even for the most simple of sentences. The only use for them is as a last resort.

My favorite example was when I put in "It's a hardball world" into Babelfish. It came back, "Es un mundo del b茅isbol" -- that is, "It's a world of baseball". (I tried it again just now to see what it'd say. It came back "It' mundo del b茅isbol del S.A." Not even comprehensible...)

I would love to be an official interpreter/translator. Which is best Brazilian Portuguese or Spanish?

I speak both languages although to be an interpreter I would have to brush up and study to improve my writing skills in either language. Which would serve me best? Which language is in more demand? I don't want to study in Spanish to say find out that people are crying out for Portuguese translators! So, Brazilian Portuguese or Spanish?I would love to be an official interpreter/translator. Which is best Brazilian Portuguese or Spanish?
Well, let me tell you some actual facts about Spanish and Portuguese

Spanish is currently the Second most widely spoken language (by native speakers) in the world after Chinese (Mandarin). Portuguese is the seventh.
It is also the Second most studied language in the world just after English, more studied than French, German, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese etc (do I even have to say Portuguese lol)

Now, if you live in the USA there's no doubt you should definitely pick Spanish as there are over 35 million people who speak it in there, some sources say that there are over 40 million. The last census says that roughly 16% of the whole country speaks Spanish. About the Portuguese speakers in the USA, there are just a bit more than a million people so the difference is 34-35 million people, that's quite a difference huh
It is by far the most widely spoken language of the US after English as well as it is the most studied one.
Thus there are a lot of jobs that require professionals who can read, write and speak it fluently.
Therefore having it in your resume will give you a lot more opportunities to get a job in an interview (and with a better payment) in the U.S.

so Spanish is definitely much more useful and beneficial than portuguese for anyone who lives in the USA

It is a very international language. Spanish is the official language in 21 countries around the world and most countries in the South, Central and North America (including the US) speak Spanish but ONLY ONE country speaks portuguese, Brazil, so it is only spoken in South America.
Portuguese is the official language in 8 countries worldwide including Portugal and Brazil, the rest are in Africa except for Eastern Timor which is in Asia.

Spanish is also one of the six official languages of the UNO (United Nations) along with English, French, Russian, Arabic and Chinese (Mandarin)
These are the most international, widely spoken, spread and studied languages in the world.
(and portuguese is not on this list)

also Spanish is the THIRD language most used on the Internet concerning the quantity of users and websites just after English (the first one) and Chinese (the second one).
This means that the information (about everything), data and multimedia resources are vast in Spanish so much more than in most languages (except these 2 I just mentioned). The experts on e-commerce say that the most flourishing and profitable languages for the future business on the internet (e-business) are Chinese and Spanish. (and this has just begun)

Now you have a very basic but actual and useful comparison between these two languages, now you can make a conclusion by yourself about which one will be better for you
    1. Brazilian isn't language it is dialect of Portuguese

    2. Spanish is spoken in world more then Portuguese so I would look for Spanish more but today I am pretty sure that Russian is on price (or it is only in Europe)

    3. Spanish is more free then English it isn't Subject Verb Object it have a little freedom I don't know about Portuguese.I would love to be an official interpreter/translator. Which is best Brazilian Portuguese or Spanish?
    1. Portuguese is a beautiful language (especially brazilian)

    2. Brazil is a rising super power, and in time they will likely be players with China and the U.S. (if they are still super powers)

    3. Every kid and their dog (in America at least) learns Spanish.

And this is coming from someone who speaks Spanish. (but I want to learn Portuguese)I would love to be an official interpreter/translator. Which is best Brazilian Portuguese or Spanish?

Of course Brazilian is more useful in America nowadays... Sure, go for it! And, always, have fun.

If your oral skills are good, I know where you can get a job as an interpreter (not translator which is written). That's what I do and I work from home doing telephone interpreting. I found that using some of the on-line sites for translation work wasn't competitive for someone in the USA as you are up against translators from countries where the value of the currency is such that they can totally outbid us. If you are interested just email me thru Yahoo Answers.
I tried to do this before. I have a Spanish degree, and it wasn't enough. There is a translator's test that you need to pass, and all the translation jobs I found on the net require that test. As soon as I find any of those jobs I'll let you know.

What you could do is advertise your services on your own website. You could use blogger or wordpress to do it.

The people you are up against have relevant degrees, postgraduate qualifications and expertise in particular subjects. Is this you? Otherwise, perhaps you had better concentrate on getting the right qualifications under your belt. This particular combination of languages is very common. That's why you've got to have something more than your competitors to land a job. You could try joining this. http://www.proz.com/

To become a spanish translator what do i need? ?

im a fluent spanish speaker. what do i need from college. what do i major or study in college. To become a spanish translator what do i need? ?
You will need at least a bachelor's degree, probably with a major in Spanish, but Spanish could be a minor if you specialize in another field. You will also need specific coursework in translation, because being fluent in a language is nowhere near enough to qualify as a translator. Translation requires a scrupulous attention to detail which you currently seem to lack, such as capitalization, punctuation and grammar.

I want to become a translator; I am bilingual and would like to become a translator for Spanish and English?

I don't know the procedures needed. I would like to know if the pay is good. Is the schooling worthed later in life.I want to become a translator; I am bilingual and would like to become a translator for Spanish and English?
How old are you now? Procedures differ depending on where you are in life. If you're still in high school, you'll need to pick a college that is known for their language program or join the military (I know the Army has a good language program), where you can use your bilingual abilities for a variety of different jobs. The military also pays for college and if you stay enlisted, you may have better opportunities to get jobs in your field. You could look for jobs almost anywhere as a translator. If you'd like to work for the UN or the State Department, you should visit their websites to see how their hiring process works.

My Spanish teachers always told me that being bilingual will open up twice as many job and career opportunities and knowing a second language usually gets you paid quite a bit more than someone who only knows how to speak English. It all depends on where you work, of course, and how much you're needed.

School is always worth your time and effort, unless you can figure out a way to bypass school and go directly into a high-paying job. Having some type of degree to back up your Spanish abilities is very valuable, as prospective employers will usually employ someone with some schooling before someone with none, unless their abilities prove to be exceptional.

If you are out of school and have completed college, searching websites of companies that you would like to be affiliated with is always a good start in the employment process.

    Hope I helped!
Yes, it's a good profession. Contact places like hospitals, businesses, government places that need someone as a translator. Tell them your fees and how they can contact you when they need you.

But, I must tell you . . Spanish/English translators are a dime a dozen. It is so common that almost everybody does it. If you really want a profession as a translator, you need to know several other languages to go with your Spanish. I want to become a translator; I am bilingual and would like to become a translator for Spanish and English?
My mother did lots of translations in the past (often economic translations) from English into Spanish and viceversa and got paid well. You need to get some sort of qualification in your second language, although I don't know what your situation would be being completely bilingual.

I am also bilingual in English and Spanish but I hate translating!!! Good luck with it, I admire you, I find it so mindnumbingly boring...I want to become a translator; I am bilingual and would like to become a translator for Spanish and English?

Do you have a contract? If you don't, it's legal. Unless there is a contract in place, employment is considered "at will". Meaning you can quit anytime, or be let go any time.

Basically, I am looking for an English --%26gt; Spanish online translator that is free. Anybody know of any good ones?I am looking for a good ENGLISH to SPANISH translator website. Anything out there that is free???
Sorry, but there aren't any good translator websites. It's not possible, at least not yet. These sites can translate single words, or sometimes short phrases, but as soon as you get to whole sentences, they invariably screw up.

The reason is that these sites try to do a mechanical one-to-one translation, and languages simply don't work like that. To translate a text, you have to understand it, and its context, and a machine can't do that.

These sites are just about okay if you a have foreign text and all you need is a rough idea what it says - as long as it's a simple text, the translation will probably give you a general idea. But that's it, they're not good if what you want is a real text in a foreign language.

I agree with the person above - there are no good free websites for translation. If you have a good concept of the language feel free to use one of the translator sites but you'll need to fix it up. They translate a lot of things literally and it doesn't make much sense, so you will need to fix it up. However, MS Word has a translation feature (look under Tools and Language) and it does the same thing.

you have to keep in mind that the order of words changes in Spanish. Like "the black cat" would be El Gato ***** which is "the cat black"... just make sure that when you use an online translator you know the basic order of how the words go in the language or print it and show it to a Spanish speaking person... email any questions to me if you like!
Another option is to see if it offered on your tool bar under maybe the Customize option. I have Advanced toolbar where I added a translater option when I customized it and I am very sorry but I forgot where I got the Advance toolbar
You should use a paper dictionary, because they give you more than one possibility and some useful phrases, with an online translator all you get is word for word translation, which usually gives you the wrong word.

To become a professional translator it is vital that you must have strong grip on at least two languages (the source %26amp; target one).

Now exercise ordinary diligence and think which schools and institutes provide professional translator education in your city.

How can I volunteer as a spanish translator?

Working from home? Maybe I'll be noticed to get a job,

I' m bilingual I believe I can do itHow can I volunteer as a spanish translator?
Well, If you just want to volunteer you can start right here, in YA!

I'm mexican and I speak both English and Spanish. I spend my time at YA! to tranlslate as many texts as I can from En-Sp Sp-En. I do it because i like it, so I think it is a good place to start.

Depending on your city, you can ask for job (volunteer job) in different places. Look for companies who need translations, and tell them you can do them for free.

They could email them to you, so you would translate it in your computer and send the translation back.

how do you say in spanish......Most people are racist, they don't accept people who are different from themselves.Spanish translator?
"La mayor铆a de la gente es racista y no acepta a quien es diferente a ellos"...the noun "gente" in Spanish is singular, therefore I wouldn't say "aceptan" and neither "ellos no aceptan"... in Spanish it is not necessary to specify the subject and if you do it sounds unnatural and redundant...Then, you usually need the preposition "a" before an object so I would say "aceptan a quien es diferente" and not "aceptan quien es..."...I would leave out "ellos mismos" o "si mismos" because the use of reflexive is not necessary in Spanish in this case...I wouldn't say "la mayoria de la gente son..." because the subject of the sentence is "la mayoria" and therefore the verb should be singular..."la gente" is just the noun in a prepositional phrase (de la gente), not the subject...

Edit: I know it's unusual, but I have to say something to 'donna occhi neri' you say 'gente' is singular, and you're right, but it has a comma to separate both phrases, so it hasn't to concord the number...

Finally, it doesn't sound unnatural, it would sound redundant if I'd repeat the subject, and the fact of specify the personal pronoun 'ellos' is to emphasize it (the amount of people that think in the same way)

I'm Spanish from Spain, and at least in Saragossa and Madrid we speak like that...
La mayor铆a de la gente es racista, no aceptan a nadie que sea diferente a ellos.

    or

La mayor铆a de la gente es racista, no aceptan a las personas que son diferentes a ellos.

    or

La mayor铆a de la gente es racista, no aceptan a nadie que no sea como ellos.

How accurate is Google Translator when translating English to French or Spanish?

How accurate would you say Google Translator is when translating English to French, or English to Spanish? I'd love answers from fluent French and Spanish speakers, cheers! How accurate is Google Translator when translating English to French or Spanish?
Translators have no chance whatsoever of getting it right if the original is not 100% grammatically correct and correctly spelt. Even then, translators do not understand idioms or context. For example, if you ask for the translation for "hydraulic ram" it is just as likely to give a translation meaning "aquatic male sheep"; if you type in an expression such as "I feel like death warmed up", it will probably give you an expression meaning "I want to die in a fire".

Conversely, I saw the Spanish expression "No s茅 nada de ingl茅s" (I know nothing about English) emerge as "He does not swim himself of groins" - because the original writer had not put in the written accents.

The point is that to be sure that a translator is giving you a correct translation you have to be totally conversant with both languages so that you can check the results - all of which seems to rather defeat the object of the exercise....
No good at all. Here's why. Most words have more than one meaning, but online translators pick just one. Most of the time it is not the right one. So the result is gibberish. You can't rely on it at all. You would do better to use an online dictionary like WordReference.com

Input one word at a time, choose your language, then you can choose among the many meanings depending on what your context is. If it is part of a phrase, check at the bottom of the page for forum explorations of the exact meaning of the phrase in context. Plus you get full conjugations of verbs. A much smarter approach than throwing in the whole sentence at once. Maybe not garbage in, but definitely garbage out.How accurate is Google Translator when translating English to French or Spanish?
It really isn't great. I'm not fluent but i'm doing advanced higher french and higher spanish at the moment and i know from past experience it isn't that accurate! SDL translation is a lot better! How accurate is Google Translator when translating English to French or Spanish?
English to Spanish: even though it has improved, i wouldn't say it is good. It's useful to figure out a broad meaning, but too often misinterprets the terms when they have more than one sense.
Eh. Depends on the original text. Sometimes it can be extremely accurate. Sometimes not.

The original text can not have any misspellings, homonyms, slang, or figurative language.

A human that actually speaks (or at least understands and writes) both languages well.

Seriously, most online machines are NOT worthy of the name "translator" because they just replace one word with another - regardless of what is meant by it.

Work is done on a machine that will to some extent "understand" ( "apertium"??) but it'll take years of work to get that workingWhat is the most accurate online english to spanish translator?
    babelfish

Is there a accurate online Spanish to English, and English to Spanish translator?

regardless of WHERE you go, there will never be a 100% accurate online translation of ANY language. online translators translate literally...word after word. and in some languages, the organization of a sentence is unlike english, meaning the verb might come before the subject or even begin the sentence etc. the same goes for spanish. our adjectives follow our nouns, (ex. el sol bonito %26gt; the sun pretty (literal) but really 'the pretty sun'). online translators may do okay in short, sparse sentences, but extreme translations are a fail. it's best to go to a native speaker or simply ask for help (if it's for a class)Is there a accurate online Spanish to English, and English to Spanish translator?
I'm sorry but I'm really tired right now cuz it's like 1:30am so I'm gonna say just google it
*points to self*Is there a accurate online Spanish to English, and English to Spanish translator?
No, never trust online translator 100%, they do a mess with the conjugation and also with some words choices. Is there a accurate online Spanish to English, and English to Spanish translator?
There are no completely accurate sites out there because a lot of words and phrases depend on context. They should be used more for reminders of stuff you already knew but needed to be shown again.

Los gastos comunitarios se pagan el d铆a 1 de cada mes.
These two sentences refer to the payment of the community of the owners of a building.

  • How much do translators get paid in San Fransisco Ca.? I am looking into becoming a Spanish translator.?

Translation fees can vary from one part of the country to another, depending on need. Spanish is so widely spoken now yet because of this, the amount of English-Spanish translators is also high. However, the level of fluency of a translator is what will make them or break them. If you are 100% fluent in both languages, including idiomatic/colloquial expressions, and, if you have perfect grammar and spelling skills in both, you can make up to 25 cents/word. If you hang your own shingle, it will take time and a lot of work to get yourself known but once you do one really good job, your reputation will precede you and you'll build up your own clientele. I would suggest that you contact your local translation service companies and offer your services on a trial basis. It gives you good practice and experience and although the pay won't be much (expect 5-10 cents/word), it gives you a start on your translator resum茅. Also, working with an established company will gain you "certification" which will be another point in your favor.

The only one I know of is Ultralingua, who publishes translators between virtually any language, however, it is also ridiculously expensive...right now, the Spanish/English one is going for $19.99.

Is there a reliable online translator from English to Spanish for business correspondence?

I need to write a letter to a potential client, but he speaks Spanish much better than English. I'm afraid that may be why he didn't purchase what I'm offering to begin with- he may not have understood everything I was offering. I have Spanish materials to send him, but I really want to write a letter to go with it. I'm afraid of using an online translator for fear that it will be choppy and come out badly. Any advice? Is there a reliable online translator from English to Spanish for business correspondence?
Just use an offline translation service or a good dictionary, like you said, ALL the online "translators" (I wouldn't even call them translators!) are utter RUBBISH.Is there a reliable online translator from English to Spanish for business correspondence?
Never, never, never use any sort of automatic translation for business purposes. You are putting your business at risk. If you need to write business stuff in a language you don't know, ask a translating professional. Is there a reliable online translator from English to Spanish for business correspondence?
Find a person who can speak spanish to write the letter, because online translators can only do literal translations and.. they're wrong 80% of the time.

Does anyone know any good Spanish/English electronic translator in stores? It's for a 50-60 year old person. who speaks only Spanish ( but could understand a little English). It has to be kinda easy to use. It has to be $30 or $ 25 and under. It has to be good to translate English to Spanish in words or in sentences... Thanks.Does anyone know any good Spanish/English electronic translator in stores?
Barnes %26amp; Noble and Borders used to have very good electronic translators. The prices vary. You can go to their websites and check it out first. You can also check on eBay or Amazon. I bet the prices of those sites will be lower than in stores.

    Hope this helps! Good luck!

Miles de juegos para jugar gratis
    Miles de juegos gratis.

    Gratis miles de juegos.

If you want a literal translation will be: Miles de juegos para jugar gratis", that will not sound good, because when using the word juegos you are indeed saying that they are for play.

i wouldn't put too much faith in those. machine generated translations can be hard to read. the translators often times will leave out words, put in a word where it doesn't belong and maybe a word in one language has no meaning in the other.

here is a plugin for either internet explorer or mozilla firefox
